Welcome to Berkshire East Mountain Resort with Kelly Skinner

We begin with our commitment to a sustainable future in recreation and renewable energy.

In 2012, Berkshire East became the first ski area in the world to power 100% of its operation with onsite renewable energy. Our energy comes from the wind and the sun. We’ve invested into a sustainable future by installing a 900 kWh wind turbine and a 500 kWh solar field. This allows us to provide amazing recreational opportunities for our customers while leaving the smallest possible carbon footprint. On an annual basis, we continue to produce and sell more electricity than we consume.

For nearly forty years we’ve provided recreational experiences and opportunities that have impacted many lives in a positive way.

We originally began operating as a ski area, Thunder Mountain, back in the early 1960’s. Since then, we’ve evolved into Berkshire East Mountain Resort, a year-round outdoor adventure center offering Alpine Skiing, Snow Tubing, Zip Lining, Mountain Biking at the Thunder Mountain Bike Park, Whitewater Rafting, The Thunderbolt, North America’s longest mountain coaster, and full service accommodations at the Warfield House Inn. Over the years, our ski racing programs continue to develop world-class skiers in part because of our great terrain and commitment to snowmaking. However, it is our dedicated coaches, staff and loyal families who have helped make many dreams come true.

We are blessed to live and work in the Berkshire Mountains, home to the Deerfield River Valley community of Charlemont, Massachusetts.

Long famous for the arts, history, and fall foliage drives, the natural topography of the Berkshires not only provides striking beauty, but also creates the setting for world-class outdoor recreation less than 2.5 hours to Boston and 3.5 to New York City. Berkshire East Mountain Resort is centrally located in New England. The combination of proximity, beauty and adrenaline has created for many, the perfect recreation destination. We’ve built a loyal base of customers, many of whom live within an hour or two of Charlemont.

Three Zip Line Canopy Tours, Whitewater Adventures, North America’s Longest Mountain Coaster, Alpine Skiing, and Downhill Mountain Biking

Our invitation is open to everyone… individuals, groups, families, camps, businesses and schools. We want you, your family, your group and your friends to visit us in Charlemont and to let us provide you with an experience of a lifetime.

Where else can you enjoy Whitewater Rafting, Zip Lining, Mountain Biking and riding a Mountain Coaster, all in one day or weekend?

We have some of the highest and fastest zip lines in the world and the longest year-round mountain coaster in North America, the Thunderbolt. The Deerfield River provides up to Class III and IV whitewater rapids, and Berkshire East Ski Area is one of the finest family ski resorts in Southern New England./span>
